TENOR

Making his Music of the Baroque concert season debut in these performances, tenor John McVeigh appeared previously with the ensemble under the direction of Nicholas McGegan in the Ravinia Festival’s presentation
of Handel’s L’Allegro with the Mark Morris Dance Group. In the 2008–09 season, he returns to the Théâtre du Châtelet for performances of the Monteverdi Vespers. He also returns to Utah Opera for the Bernstein Mass and sings Messiah with the Nashville Symphony and San Diego Symphony, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Calgary Philharmonic. Future engagements include Endimione in Martin y Soler’s L’abore di Diana at the Gran Teatro
del Liceu.

Mr. McVeigh has joined the Metropolitan Opera for Little Bat in Susannah, Pang in Turandot, and Bardolfo in Falstaff. He created the role of Will Tweedy in Cold Sassy Tree in the world premiere at Houston Grand Opera and has sung subsequent performances with Austin Lyric Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Opera Omaha, San Diego Opera, and Opera Carolina. Other roles include the Novice in Billy Budd (Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, Teatro Carlo Felice); Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the title role in Student Prince, and Johnny Inkslinger in Paul Bunyan (Central City Opera); Arbace in Idomeneo (Santa Fe Opera); and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni (Glimmerglass Opera).

The tenor made his European début as Teseo in Traetta’s Ippolito ed Aricia with Opéra de Montepellier. He returned for Adrastro in Antigona by the same composer and sang subsequent performances at the Théâtre du Châtelet. He has sung Lurcanio in Ariodante (Gran Teatre del Liceu, New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and de Vlaamse Opera); Emilio in Partenope (Göttingen Handel Festpiele, Glimmerglass Opera, New York City Opera); and the title role in Acis and Galatea (Glimmerglass Opera).

On the concert stage, John McVeigh has appeared in Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Handel’s Messiah with the Minnesota Orchestra; Bach cantatas and Handel arias, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, and Handel’s Israel in Egypt with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra; and Phillip Glass’ Symphony No. 5 with the Gewandhaus Orchester, Brooklyn Philharmonic, and Danish National Radio Orchestra.
