Sarah Gartshore |
Selected as one of Symphony Magazine's emerging artists, soprano Sarah Gartshore has appeared previously with Music of the Baroque in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and in Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor and Salieri's Prima la musica, e poi le parole.
A Santa Fe Apprentice Artist, Ms. Gartshore made her début with Santa Fe Opera last season as the First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. She portrayed Magda in Chamber Opera Chicago’s recent production of Menotti’s The Consul, and Fata Morgana in the Chicago Cultural Center’s production of Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges.
Other recent performances include the Verdi Requiem with Muncie Symphony Orchestra, Messiah with the Richmond and Jacksonville Symphony Orchestras, the Brahms Requiem and Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with Richmond Symphony, and Mahler’s Second Symphony with West Suburban Symphony (Chicago). She recently débuted as the Countess in a concert reading of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Northbrook Symphony, and as Donna Anna with American Opera Group.
Ms. Gartshore’s past performances include Queen of the Night in Opera North’s production of The Magic Flute and Virtù in L’Incoronazione di Poppea with Chicago Opera Theater. She has portrayed Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and the title role in Suor Angelica. She also performed Dvořák’s Mass at the 47th International Choral Arts Festival of Jihlava in the Czech Republic.
Upcoming engagements include Scarlatti’s Su le sponde del Tebro with Chicago Chamber Musicians, and in her sixth appearance with Oak Park's Handel Week Festival, the title role in Handel's Acis and Galatea.
A native of Canada, Ms. Gartshore is a graduate of Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. She is a recipient of the Tom Thomas Scholarship Award from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and was a finalist in Chicago’s Barnett Family Foundation Competition.
