Subscriber Marianne Schaefer shares the magic of the Baroque

Marianne Schaefer has been an MOB subscriber for 30 years. "My family and I enjoyed classical music and attended concerts at Symphony Center and other venues,” she says. “But I discovered Music of the Baroque after venturing out on my own to a Holiday Brass and Choral concert at Divine Word Chapel in Techny. The haunting, beautiful sounds of instruments and voice brought tears to my young eyes. I had never been spiritually lifted in this way. I became a subscriber that very day.”

The Holiday Brass & Choral concert continues to be an important part of Marianne's Christmas traditions. “My means have always been modest, but after the holiday concert each year, I treat myself to a feast at a nearby restaurant with no restrictions—including a scotch and dessert!”

For Marianne, the magic of the Holiday Brass & Choral concerts may be eclipsed only by the magic of sharing Baroque music with someone very special. “I’m finally accompanied by the only other member of my family who enjoys Baroque music’s unique tones and emotional heart tugs: my ten-year-old granddaughter. In fact, my favorite experience was watching her lean forward in her seat to be able to move her body during a Vivaldi concert, her mouth open in excitement and recognition of selections she had heard many times before in my home.”
