Kyle Sackett, MOB Chorus member

Bass Kyle Sackett has been a member of the MOB Chorus since 2015. "Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus was my first professional gig in Chicago. It was incredible to sing with these wonderful new colleagues and soloists like Eric Owens under the direction of Jane Glover, who was leading from the harpsichord."

“As I reflect back, so many wonderful musical memories pour over me,” Kyle says, “like the many Brass and Choral Christmases and the beautiful venues where we perform them; the masterworks of Bach, which are some of my favorite works of all time; and working with the lively high school students in the Strong Voices program.”

But what truly stands out for him is the way the spirit of the ensemble is defined by musical excellence, humility, and kindness. "These values were clear to me from my very first audition opportunity with [former Chorus Director] Bill Gray," he says. "What I will always love and remember about Music of the Baroque is balancing performing life with lending a helping hand. I often served on MOB's stage crew under the direction of fellow chorus member and production manager Jan Jarvis. We move chairs, set up rehearsal spaces, and of course, carefully move keyboard instruments all over Chicagoland, from Skokie to the south side! I enjoyed this added bit of community, this almost 'all for one and one for all' approach and behind the scenes look at music making of the highest order. There was a balance between this pre-show grunt work and white-tie performing that was both humorous and appropriate. Plus, I got to see so many hidden passageways and alleys in and around historic Chicago music venues!"
