THE MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE AWARD
THE MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE AWARD 2025 was presented to The Negaunee Foundation in recognition of the Foundation's tremendous impact on Music of the Baroque over the years, enabling the success of many concerts, education initiatives, broadcasts, recordings, and community events. The award ceremony took place at the "A Musical Feast" gala benefit on October 25, 2025 at the Fairmont Chicago.
This marked the second presentation of the Music of the Baroque Award, given biennially to individuals and organizations that have had a significant impact on Music of the Baroque or the broader world of Baroque music performance. The inaugural award was presented to arts advocate Joan Harris in 2023 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, Music of the Baroque's downtown home.
With the generous support of Marion Cameron-Gray and Sipi Metals Corp., Music of the Baroque commissioned acclaimed sculptor and longtime supporter Richard Hunt to create the award in 2023.
The Music of the Baroque Award: “Baroque Bow”
“This piece is an abstraction, but you can also see it as the bow of a boat. It’s set up so that it’s both static and active. These forms [are] about music and they’re also about spatial growth and placement. As I was growing up music was very important to me and for me working in a 3-dimensional way. I like having a musical background when I’m working. I played the violin in a youth orchestra, every now and then I felt I should be making music, but I kept falling back on making art.” —Richard Hunt in 2023
