Concertos for Voice—Vivaldi, Pergolesi, Handel

Paul Agnew, conductor

Nisi Dominus, RV 608

Concerto per la Santissima Assontione di Maria Vergine, RV 581

Salve Regina, HWV 241

Stabat Mater

The human voice soars with instrumental freedom in a program of gorgeous sacred works featuring rising young singers under the baton of early music specialist Paul Agnew. Virtuosic vocal “concertos” by Handel and Vivaldi are heard alongside the Pergolesi Stabat Mater—a profoundly moving portrait of a mother’s grief.

Jennifer More will give preconcert lectures on Sunday, April 22, 6:30 pm, at the Doubletree Hotel (Athens Room) adjacent to the North Shore Center, and Monday, April 23, 6:00 pm, in the Studio Theater at the Chicago Cultural Center.
